In addition to hardware modifications I also do TiVo repairs. I have the tools, stock of replacement parts and access to information required to repair the majority of TiVo faults at board level (ie replacement of the individual parts on the motherboard). Like everything, sometimes this is not possible if it is too far gone, but usually it is possible to help out most of the time. Luckily for both of us the Series 1 TiVo hardware is generally very reliable and rarely gives trouble.
My repair prices are reasonable and I do not charge for assessment. Furthermore you are under no obligation until we agree on a price/strategy for repair. I also work on a "no fix no charge" policy. In this case you simply cover postage of either the full TiVo being returned for your disposal or just the parts you wish to recover.
If you suspect you have a fault with your TiVo you are more than welcome to contact me and I can try to make a quick assessment of what the problem may be, and advise if there is anything you can do at your end to remedy the problem. If a solution at your end is not possible then we can discuss the best option for repair be it you sending me the TiVo, or if you are capable of swapping parts yourself I can offer to send you the necessary items.
One small tip: The most faults by far are problems related to hard disks. Therefore before suspecting a fault with the TiVo power supply or motherboard I suggest you try using a test hard disk first and see if the same fault is present with the test hard disk. This test hard disk does not need to be big and anything from 1GB upwards will do the job. If you are fortunate enough to own more than one TiVo you could also try swapping hard disks, power supplies, etc to isolate the faulty item. Once you have an idea what part of the TiVo is faulty then you can contact me to discuss your repair options.
